Not many books have influenced my life. One of them was Narcissus and Goldmund by Herman Hesse. I read it when I was a teenager and identified with the romantic Goldmund character.
Another book that influenced my approach to teaching piano is something called "The Painting Experience" by Michelle Cassou.
Her philosophy is quite simple; be able to trust your intuition and have the confidence to paint exactly what you feel like painting. Her approach allows students to go beyond technique to reach inside themselves and discover a spritiual way of painting. I knew within a few weeks that I wanted to do the same thing for music.
