New Age Music and Religion

Recently, someone emailed me and asked about taking my online piano lessons. She really like the idea of New Age piano and the music but was concerned about the term "new age" and its implications towards religion.

I responded by saying that this music really has nothing to do with religion. In fact, how can music have anything to do with religion?

For example, even though Handel devoted much music to the glory of God as do many composers, the music itself is just music and stands on its own as music. Whatever attributes are given to it by others is of their own making.

Of course, I'm just talking about instrumental music. There is actually music (with lyrics) that has religious connotation.
