Process vs. Product

I'm currently working on a new CD project. My process is to first "compose" all the pieces then sort them in the order that they will appear on the CD. I have a goal date of September 2006 to finish the material. For me that means having the songs ready, polished, and waiting to be recorded.

The thing about setting a goal date that's good is that it motivates you to complete something. The bad part of it is the product itself may suffer due to time constraints. I can't force my process. If I do, the music will suffer. So I choose process over product.

Hopefully, the CD will be complete and ready for sale by September. If not, oh well. At least having a goal spurs me on :)
