The question I have to ask is... "play what?"

I have nothing against those who want to learn the available repertoire out there. In fact, this is what most piano students want. Very few have the courage or the desire to actually create their own unique music.

And for the most part, it's not their fault. The world of improvisation and composition seems so scary. And it is for those who were brought up in the classical tradition.

My philosophy? Life's too short not to enjoy ALL that music has to offer and to be able to create even one original note is more than worthwhile.
