Recommended Listening: The Phrygian Mode

Thought this was interesting. Especially since she's using an open position chord in the left hand. Modes are pretty cool as they give you 'new' sounds. On the white keys, E to E is called the Phrygian mode and has a somewhat mysterious sound to it.

She's playing two 'shell chords' in the left hand (E minor and A minor without the third) and improvises a melody in the right using the tones from the Phrygian scale.

Actually, I think I'll show you how to really get some cool modal sounds in my next lesson coming soon! :) Membership expired or want to join? Visit http://www.quiescencemusic.com/#offer to take advantage of my New Year's special!
