Recommended Listening: Alexandre Desplat - The Meadow

Just discvoered this guy. He's a french film composer most notable for composing music to the 'Twilight' movies. In fact, this piece is from the film 'New Moon.'

What I like about this music is how he creates a simple theme, uses the principles of repetion and contrast to create a pleasing whole. I think the piece starts out in A harmonic minor and modulates to major. The form is sectional (although I haven't completely analyzed it yet) but here we have new and modern music that many enjoy.

What I really like is that younger generations are getting exposed to this kind of piano music via popular films. The New Age piano genre is sadly underexposed (thanks in no small part to the term 'new age.') Films like the 'Twilight' series and composers like Desplat are slowly bringing it back!
